This is why the use of asbestos is now strictly regulated in many countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steps have been taken to <strong>reduce the problem of asbestos in homes<\/strong>, but it is still present in some areas of the country.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"les-lois-sur-l-amiante\">Asbestos laws<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A large number of laws have been passed by the French Parliament concerning asbestos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 1985, the IARC (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iarc.who.int\/fr\/a-propos-du-circ\/\"><strong>International Agency for Research on Cancer<\/strong><\/a>) recognized asbestos as a carcinogen.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inrs.fr\/risques\/amiante\/historique-problematique-amiante.html\"><strong>In 1990, the material was banned in France<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1994, the IAC (Information Center on Asbestos) was created and set up a national plan for the prevention of health risks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 1997, the WHO signed a convention to prevent the risks of exposure to asbestos fibres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2005, a law was voted to recognize the impacts of asbestos as an occupational disease, with a compensation fund.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In April 2013, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legifrance.gouv.fr\/jorf\/id\/JORFTEXT000027692187\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">regulations for private homes<\/a> went into effect. It must be performed by a certified professional.
